Who I Am
My name is Stephanie Janzen-Martin. I live in Ontario, Canada, and my academic background (Bachelor’s and Master’s) are in International Development. My current focus puts sustainability at the root of everything – whether it is a personal (eg a switch to plant-based eating, zero-waste living or trains instead of plains or others), or larger institutional changes (eg waste-free events, vegetarian/vegan food served in an office or at an event, better program/strategic plans for events, a more inclusive society with a place for everyone or others).
My work is inter-disciplinary, and I have included community development, theology and a wide variety of other disciplines in my course work. There are many great resources out there that I think deserve greater exposure, and so I will be highlighting many of them here. I love working with others to tackle big problems and help create positive change.
About the Logo
The logo – a multi-coloured circle – represents all of the various components that form sustainable development, and the many ways in which our collective diversity comes together for the greater good. The design shares some similarities with both the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and Kate Raworth’s donut model of sustainable development.
Together, these models, and countless other similar ones that are used, highlight the fact that sustainable development is complex and multi-faceted. There is no sector – whether housing, education, health or others – that can be addressed in isolation and hope to achieve the broader goals of sustainable development. Each piece is important, but no sector acts in isolation. However, when people, sectors and countries all work together, the end result that is achieved is far greater than the sum of the individual parts.
Why I’m Here
This website is here for one simple reason – to share and promote some great resources that I think deserve to be highlighted while also hopefully helping to continue the discussion around sustainable development and peacebuilding, both within and beyond Mennonite circles. In addition to being a simple collection of resources, this is also my way of amplifying my voice – along with others in the Menno/sustainability world – to create a louder, stronger call to action, one that can not be ignored.
What I Can Offer You
In addition to the collection of resources and store partners, I am also happy to work with you – individually or with a small/large group – to help you work towards any of your goals, as they relate to the work that I am doing here, including working with small NGOs to improve their program planning, and help with incorporating more plant-based eating into your daily life.
Connect with Me
I would love to hear from you, so if you would like to learn more, or want to discuss anything on the website, feel free to contact me using the contact form. Thanks!
Do you have an idea for a collaboration? Areas that you would like to work together on? Topics you would like to learn more about or discuss in greater detail? I am always interested in pursuing new collaborations, and in opportunities to connect with others. I’d love to hear from you and connect further. 🙂
